I have been a fan of the Cruz cousins since I was a little girl. Honestly, I couldn’t understand how such great genes and stunning visuals run in a single family bloodline. How to be you po’s are always in my mind when I see one or all of them.
So when Rayver Cruz entered the business and was reintroduced as the relative of the beautiful women, I was equally shocked, if not more so, the power of genes and acting craft just runs in their family does it?
Apart from the famous relatives, Rayver had already captured my interest regardless. He has that good boy next door vibe- the type you would trust your spare key with and the type who you’d call when your fire gets flat. Here are the things you may not know about our all-around idol, Rayver Cruz.
Rayver was born as Raymond Oliver Cruz Ilustre on July 20, 1989 in Las Piñas, Philippines. He came from a family of famous actors in the entertainment industry. In fact, one of his two borthers ,Rodjun Cruz, is also works in showbusiness. He is the cousin of Sheryl Cruz, Sunshine Cruz, Donna Cruz and Geneva Cruz.
He finished his tertiary education at the St. Francis of Assisi College, majoring in Business Administration Management
Rayver started his career when he was just four years old, in the informative television program 5 and Up in GMA Network. He hosted the show with his brother Rodjun. Rayver was also a supporting cast in the television situational comedy series Kiss Muna which was lead by Joey De Leon.
After his work with GMA Network, he transferred to ABS-CBN, debuting in the teen comedy, horror and mystery series Spirits where he was among the lead characters. There he worked with Maja Salvador, Serena Dalrymple, Joseph Bitangcol and Michelle Madrigal. He was also a part of the group A-nime
In 2007, he landed another lead role in the primetime show Rounin, playing the character of Mythos, who was in the search of finding about his past to reveal his true identity.
Perhaps one of his greatest roles to date was his performance as Marcus Ramirez in the primetime drama series Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin. The drama series allowed him to show his acting range as he worked with the veteran actors in the country including Dawn Zulueta, Tonton Gutierrez and Dina Bonnevie.
Rayver’s acting skills was also recognized in the 2015 drama, suspense, comedy and romance television series Doble Kara where he worked with Julia Montes, Ariel Rivera and Carmina Villaroel. He left ABS CBN after his fantasy, drama, romance series Bagani where he brought to life the character of Kidlat, the brave warrior and friend of Lakas.
BACK TO THE HOME NETWORK
After almost two decades with ABS CBN, Rayver decided to sign in with GMA Network in 2018. Here, his skills as a performer and dancer were highlighted as he hosted and performed in his own show – Studio 7 in the same year. Apart from dancing, he went back to his acting roots where he led the drama series Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko with Thea Tolentino and Kris Bernal.
He again worked with Kris Bernal in the television drama horror series Hanggang sa Dulo ng Buhay Ko as Matteo Divinagracia. In this series, he also worked with Kim Domingo and Megan Young.
This year, he is working in the television drama Nagbabagang Luha, a remake of the 1988 film of the same title. The series is directed by veteran actor and director Ricky Davao. He is the leading man of the equally talented Glaiza De Castro.
Any of these surprised you yet? If none of these captured your attention, how about watching him in his television drama series Nagbabagang Luha, I’m more than confident that he would capture your heart too!
