Things You Didn’t Know About Paulo Avelino

I WOULD come right here, right now. I love Paulo AvelinoI love him ever since he started his bid to enter showbusiness in Starstruck. Although he has been eliminated, I rooted for him until the end, and proud to say, I am still an avid supporter.

If you tell me he is just one of the many gorgeous faces in the industry, I would agree with you. He is utterly gorgeous. But I think he is more than a pretty face. He is so much more than a pretty face and a smoking hot physique.

In lieu of his upcoming movie, Fan Girl, here are some of the things you may not know about Paulo Avelino.

Early Life

He was born Michael Paulo Lingbanan Avelino on May 13, 1988 in the city of Pines – Baguio City. In his lineage is a family of powerful politicians – the greatest being former Senate President Jose Avelino, his great grandfather. He grew up with three other siblings, Honey. Gabriel and Angela, him being the second oldest.

He did majority of his formal education in Baguio City, finishing his primary education at the Baguio City SPED Center Elementary School and his high school at the Baguio Patriotic High School. Although he started his college degree at the Saint Louis University, he continued the same course at the Ateneo De Manila University due to his career.

New Beginnings at GMA Network

Starstruck, the reality talent show in GMA Network opened many doors of opportunity for Paulo. Although he was eliminated, he signed an exclusive contract with the network which led him to play various roles, mainly support and not the lead actor. He was with GMA Network from 2006 to 2011, until his last project Alakdana.

Main Roles with ABS CBN

It was when he transferred to the rival network, ABS CBN that he landed his lead roles. Reinventing himself from the usual roles that he played, he took on various projects which challenged his acting skills and versatility. One of which is in the Cinemalaya film “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa”, where he played a bisexual character. His stunning portrayal won him his first acting award at the prestigious Gawad Urian Awards.

He also worked on high rating television series such as Walang Hanggan (2012), Honesto (2013), Sana Bukas Pa ang Kahapon (2014), Bridges of Love (2015), FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (2016), The Promise of Forever (2017), Asintado (2018) and The General’s Daughter (2019).

Paulo Avelino is one of the very few actors in the Philippines who appear regularly on mainstream and indie films. Some of his memorable films include the historical musical film ‘Ang Larawan’ where he played the role of the dashing Tony Javier; the mysterious wedding photographer in ‘Sana Dati’ and as the young general Gregorio del Pilar in the movies ‘Heneral Luna’ and ‘Goyo’. He also teamed up with Maja Salvador in the anti-Valentine film ‘I’m Drunk, I Love You’.

His film ‘Ngayon, Kaya’ with Janine Gutierrez was originally intended for the 1st Metro Manila Summer Film Festival’.

Beyond Acting

Aside from his acting projects in the television and big screen, he also pursues other projects. Did you know he is also a recording artist? He released a self-titled EP in 2012 under the genre OPM and Pop, which is a certified gold label. The EP has 6 covers of OPM classic hits and is under Universal Records.

He also shares a son, Ethan Aiko Reyes with the actress LJ Reyes.

 

2020 Projects and Beyond

Paulo Avelino

This year, he plays the role of Emmanuel “Emman” Salvador at the drama Walang Hanggang Paalam aired at the Kapamilya Newtork. Directed by Emmanuel Q. Palo and Darnel Joy R. Villaflor, it also stars Zanjoe Marudo, Arci Munoz and Angelica Panganiban. It premiered last September 28.

He is set to appear in a film – Fan Girl, written, directed and produced by Antonette Jadaone and also staring Charlie Dizon. The film is one of the official entries to the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival.
