Things You Didn’t Know About Maxine Medina

IF YOU’RE a big pageant fan, you most probably cheered for Maxine Medina when she competed at the 2016 Miss Universe Pageant. She made it to the Top 6, but she won the hearts of many!

Now, she is considered as one of the most promising stars on television. She already proved her strength in doing drama roles and recently, she also ventured into comedy! What an all-around queen!

EARLY LIFE

Maxine’s full birth name is Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina. She was born on May 10, 1990 in Quezon City, Philippines. For her education, she got her bachelor’s degree from the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, where she took up interior design. She further her education by also studying at the Philippine School of Interior Design.

Great genes run in the family. She is the cousin of Diane Media, a dancer, actress, host and a model. Also, her aunt is the famous Germelina Padilla, who won the Binibining Pilipinas Universe crown in 1990.

CAREER BEGINNINGS

Maxine started her career as a commercial print ad model. In fact, she is a senior member of the prestigious Professional Models Association of the Philippines. She transitioned from being a model to a host and performer in the Sunday entertainment variety ASAP since 2016.

Although what was considered her television debut was in 2018. She played the role of Atty Georgette Sandiego in the drama series Hanggang Saan, which starred Arjo Atayde and Sylvia Sanchez. From there, she television projects such as in It’s Showtime as Miss Q and a guest judge, Swak na Swak, as herself and a judge and in the law anthology drama series Ipaglaban Mo: Abogada.

BREAKTHROUGH

Maxine finally gained popularity and had become a national icon when she landed a role in the Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Los Bastardos. She played the role of Isay Navarro and was paired with Jake Cuenca in the series. Her last project with ABS CBN Network was again in the law drama anthology Ipaglaban Mo, episode Dinukot, where she played the role of Cecil.

In 2020, Maxine changed networks and had transferred to the TV5 Network via Brightlight Productions. Her first project in iWant was in the same year, in the show Beauty Queens, where she gave life to the character of Daisy De Veyra. Maxine when to play herself in the sketch comedy variety show Sunday ‘Kada in 2020 to 2021, in TV5.

FILMS

Maxine also appeared in several films even before her television debut. In 2014, she played the role of Atty. Peaches in the comedy film Beauty in a Bottle. She went back to film making after three years when she appeared in the thriller horror film Spirit of the Glass : The Haunted in 2017. Her first movie where she is the lead actress is the indie film ‘Pinay Beauty’.

Maxine currently had done two movies with Star Cinema. First was in 2018 with the film Kusina Kings, a comedy film which starred Zanjoe Marudo and Empoy Marquez. The following year, she again appeared in the high budget, high grossing film Hello, Love, Goodbye. The film tells the story of a struggling overseas worker, Joy (played by Kathryn Bernardo) in Hong Kong who found love in Ethan, a bartender played by Alden Richards. 

CURRENT PROJECTS

This year, Maxine appeared in the drama romantic comedy series First Yaya in GMA Network. It starred Sanya Lopez, Gabby Concepcion, Pancho Magno and Sandy Andolong. The series concluded in July of 2021 and is set to have its continuation in 2022, in the series First Lady. This year, Maxine had also appeared in the television drama anthology show Magpakailanman.

Maxine is set to appear this Sunday in the Regal Studio Presents: Karinderya Queens, which will air on November 7 at 4:35PM after the show Dear Uge.
