Things You Didn’t Know About Lovi Poe

TO SAY that Lovi Poe entered show business with a bang is an understatement. Her credibility had already been questioned in lieu of famous parents which made the playing field already biased against her.

But, with true grace and passion, Lovi had proven that she is more than just a pretty face or a daughter of famous people. Her career has proven that she is a woman of her own – strong, versatile, and here making the world her own.

Now that she is getting a year older (and wiser), let us look back at her not so humble beginnings, her career and the life she led in front of the cameras. Here are some things you might not know about the talented Lovi Poe.

EARLY LIFE

Lovi was born Lourdes Virginia Moran Poe on February 11, 1989 in Quezon City. Her mother is the former actress and beauty queen Rowena Moran and her father, the late Fernando Poe Jr. She is half sisters to Senator Grace Poe.

She obtained her education from the Colegio San Augustin in Makati in 2007. She attended courses from the International Academy of Management and Economics and also from Miriam College.

CAREER and BREAKTHROUGH

Although she has been in and out of the showbusiness limelight since 2004 for admitting that she is indeed a daughter of Fernando Poe Jr., it was only after her high school graduation when she got serious in pursuing a career in show business just like her parents. Her debut in television was with the youth-oriented afternoon show Love To Love when she was paired opposite Cogie Domingo.

Her career began to blossom when she landed the much coveted role of Kristal in the hit television drama series Bakekang. Her acting skills in this series won her the Best New Female TV Personality at the 21st PMPC Star Awards for Television.

Since then, Lovi Poe became one of GMA-7’s most prized leading ladies. Some of the teleseryes she’s done in the past years include Kaputol ng Isang Awit, Little Star, Legacy, Yesterday’s Bride, Beautiful Strangers, Ang Dalawang Mrs. Cruz, Mulawin, The One That Got Away and now with the upcoming GMA News and Public affairs-produced series ‘Owe My Love’.

FILMS

Lovi’s debut on the silver screen was with the film Shake, Rattle and Roll 9 when she played a supporting role. It was quite memorable because for her first movie role, she already won the New Movie Actress of the Year from the PMPC Star Awards for Movies in 2008.

She continued to be a movie prolific actress appearing in various movies such as Walang Hanggang Paalam (her first leading role), Mayohan (where she was paired with Elijah Castillo), Temptation Island, My Neighbor’s Wife, Aswang (where she was paired with Paulo Avelino), Guni- Guni (with Benjamin Alves), Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles (with Dingdong Dantes), (Shake Rattle and Roll 14:  The Invasion (with Vhong Navaro), Thy Womb (opposite Nora Aunor), Sana Dati and many more.

Her recent works include The Bride and the Lover, The Significant Other, Woke Up Like This, The Annulment, Hindi Tayo Pwede, Malaya and Latay.

Her film choices are so diverse that it showcases her varying levels of acting depth, that is why she never fails to be nominated for awards in her films.

AWARDS

She went on to win numerous awards for her work. She won her first Best Actress Award from the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival for the movie Mayohan in 2010. In the same year, she also won another Best Actress award for her performance in the film Sagrada Familia from the FAMAS Awards. In 2012, she won the Movie Supporting Actress of the Year from the PMPC Star Awards for Movies for her role in the film Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.

She also won awards from her film Thy Womb (Pinakapasadong Katuwang na Aktres), Titser (Lead Artist Special Recognition Award), and Magpakailanman: Ang Asawang Naging Kabit (Most Outstanding TV Performance by an Actress).

There you go, such an amazing life and very impressive career for someone who has been tagged several times as “just another pretty face”. But of course, our Lovi is above those. She continues to live her life to the fullest and learn on the way, just as we should.
