YOU MAY know Kokoy De Santos as the reigning BL King of the Philippines. With his movie “F*ccbois” leaking, you may have thought that his career would be over. But contrary to what was expected, great things do happen unexpectedly.

With the leak of his movie, it actually helped his career blossom. This movie led him to be noticed by people. However what was considered as his breakthrough film is the BL Series “Gameboys” opposite an equally talented young actor Elijah Canlas.

Due to the series prominence, and the iconic partnership and compatibility between the two actors, they have bagged an endorsement with the clothing giant, Bench. Oh not to mention that they have world-wide following. No big deal, really.

Early Life

Kokoy De Santos was born Ronald Marquez de Santos Jr. on May 15, 1998 in General Trias, Cavite, Philippines. Prior to his prominence in his acting career, he studied at the Institute of Culinary and Kitchen Services in Cavite Philippines.

Although many know him as the prominent BL actor that he is now, he actually started his showbusiness career at a young age. In his younger days, he appeared in numerous commercials and endorsements. Among his famous endorsements are for the Bear Brand chocolate milk and the noodles Lucky Me.  He also had his start as a young actor, apart from the endorsements.

His first film was in 2013 “Bromance: My Brother’s Romance”, where he played a supporting role. It was followed by another supporting role in the movie Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel. He had his first lead role in the movie “Tumbang Preso” in 2014, where he played the role of Carlo. This was followed by numerous supporting roles throughout the years, such as in Kid Kulafu (2015), Die Beautiful (2016) and Signal Rock (2018).

Although the movie “Fuccbois” was leaked, it had become the official entry to the 15th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. He played another main role in the film, acting as Miko. He also is set to appear in the film “How to Die Young in Manila” which is set to compete in the Busan International Film Festival under the category of Short Film.

Kokoy de Santos in ‘Futbolilits’

Apart from appearing in films, Kokoy also had his share in television series. His first appearance in a series was with GMA Network, in the series “Futbolilits”. This was followed by appearances in the series “My Husband’s Lover” and “Kidlat” in 2013 under GMA Network and TV5 respectively.

From 2005 to the current year, he appeared in various series shown at the ABS-CBN Network. This include appearances in “Oh My G!”, “The Greatest Love”, “Pusong Ligaw”, “Maalaala Mo Kaya”, “Ngayon at Kailanman”, “The Killer Bride” and “Ipaglaban Mo!”.

Kokoy de Santos also played a shocking role in IWant (now IWantTFC) digital series ‘I Am U’, where she shared some intimate scenes with an older woman played by Ina Raymundo.

Continuing the demand for his acting prowess in the BL genre, he bagged the main role of the YouTube series “Gameboys”, which was produced by The IdeaFirst Company. Gameboys is a series that deals with the story of two young boys who, by fate or by luck, connected through the COVID19 pandemic, found each other online. Kokoy plays the role of Gavreel Alarcon, while Elijah Canlas, the other half of the duo, plays the role of Cairo Lazaro. This series could be seen in Youtube. In total, Gameboys have 13 episodes.

After Gameboys, he is set to appear in the iWANTTFC BL series called “Oh, Mando”.  The series is directed by Eduardo Roy Jr and produced by the production giant Dreamscape Entertainment with Found Films. It stars Kokoy de Santos, Alex Diaz and Barbie Imperial. The plot revolves around Mando (played by Kokoy) who finds himself in a sticky situation where he developed romantic films to Barry (played by Alex) while still in a relationship with his girlfriend (played by Barbie).

His recent project “Oh, Mando” is definitely something to look forward to. Not only it shines light on taboo topics in Philippine society, it also highlights Kokoy’s acting abilities. Looking forward to November 5!
