JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE is one of GMA-7’s most prized artists. Starting her career as a singer when she became a part of QTV’s Popstar Kids. Though she lost to Rita Daniela in the said competition, that didn’t hinder her to continue her showbiz career.

She later on transitioned into a teen actress. Thanks to her globally famous rendition of Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass, this caught the attention not only of Pinoys but of fans worldwide. She became one of Kapuso Network’s bet for stardom and starred in a number of soap operas and produced a number of albums.

Now that she is back in making romantic comedies with the new and upcoming show “Heartful Café” with David Licauco, let us look back at her beginnings. Here are the things you didn’t know about Julie Anne San Jose.

EARLY LIFE

Julie was born as Julie Anne Peñaflorida San Jose on May 17, 1994 in Quezon City, Philippines. She’s the eldest among the siblings. her singing thought it was this forward when Julie sang the song “Habang May Buhay” when she was barely three years old. Because of that her mother enrolled her at the Center for Pop Music when she turned 3.

Her involvement in the Center turned out to be the door of opportunity for her in the entertainment industry. In the same year that she got enrolled, she was casted in one of the Philippine’s longest running children show Batibot.

CAREER BEGINNINGS

Early on in her career, she has been appearing in various television contests such as Little Miss Philippines and Munting Miss U. She also appeared in a television commercial with the mega star herself, Sharon Cuneta. Although she did not pursue show business officially until 2005.

SUGAR POP

In 2005, she joined the singing competition Popstar Kids. even though she did not win the grand prize, she and her co-finalists form a singing group called Sugarpop. the group did shows and hosting gigs. Because of her exposure, she various singing projects which include singing for various soundtrack for Kapuso teleseryes and even the GMA Christmas station ID.

BREAKTHROUGH

Her project with the entertainment show, Party Pilipinas, had catapulted Julie to be one of the most versatile performers among her generation. It’s a show allowed her to showcase her dancing, singing, hosting, and even acting abilities in front of the spotlight.

Her rendition of the song ”Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj had propelled her and her career into international stardom. She was personally chosen by the international artist David Archuleta as his front act in his major concert at the Araneta Coliseum in 2011.

VERSATILE ARTISTRY

Julie focused on all her skills in and out of the camera. she released her album Julie Anne San Jose with GMA records in 2012. For that, Julie became the recipient of numerous awards and is the only artist who has the certified quadruple platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry.

In the same year, Julie landed the lead role in the Together Forever, a youth oriented weekly show. Also in 2012, she debuted in her first film Just One Summer opposite Elmo Magalona. The next year, Julie had her first major solo concert at the Music Museum in Greenhills – Julie Anne” It’s My Time.

Throughout her career, Julie had released  three studio albums, two extended plays and numerous compilation albums.
