Things You Didn’t Know About James Reid

I have known James Reid since he entered the Pinoy Big Brother House. My first impression? He was cute. That’s it.

Years later, James resurfaced again in my radar when I watched Diary ng Panget in a cinema. It was his first “real” acting project that I have watched, and I can safely say that I am impressed.

Further along his career, I am honestly glad that he began accepting roles outside of his comfort zone. I think his decision to shed the typical-template-driven roles allowed him to grow further in his career as a true, great actor. Now, he is focused on his first love – music. For his birthday, let us take time to appreciate the one and only Careless Music  CEO James Reid!

EARLY LIFE

James was born as Robert James Reid on May 11, 1993 in Sydney Australia to an Australian father and a Filipino mother. He has 6 half siblings on his father’s side and one half sibling on his mother’s side.

Although James’ parents separated when he was just two years old, he lived in Australia until he was fifteen. Then he and his father moved to the Philippines to start a new life. His father enrolled him at the Karaba High School Distance Education Center.

CAREER BEGINNINGS

James tried his luck in the show business by entering the reality show Pinoy Big Brother, under the Teen International housemates in 2010. He celebrated his 17th birthday inside the house. Although he was met with a couple of health issues, forcing him to be brought outside the hospital twice, James eventually emerged as the winner for the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash 2010.

It was his stint in PBB that brought him to other opportunities. Like most of the winners in the show, he began his journey to showbusiness, first by being paired with fellow housemate Devon Seron in the shows Shoutout and Good Vibes. Another love team was with Yen Santos in the romantic drama television series Pintada.

BREAKTHROUGH

James began nationally acclaimed when he starred in the blockbuster film Diary ng Panget opposite Nadine Lustre, who became her real and reel love team. Aside from starring in the film, he also sang one of the official tracks to the movie. James continued to fly high in more films with Nadine like Talk Back and You’re Dead Para sa Hopeless Romantic and This Time. His performance gave him a nomination for an Outstanding Achievement By An Actor In A Leading Role.

He was paired again with Nadine in the primetime romantic television series On the Wings Of Love as Clark Medina. After the huge success of the series, the pair landed the lead roles in the television series Till I Met You.

MOVIES

Despite appearing non-stop on different television shows, James also expanded his acting portfolio by appearing in numerous movies. He made his acting debut in the film On Thin Ice, a short film shown at the De La Salle University. HIs breakthrough movies Diary ng Panget was followed by another Jadine love team movie called Talk Back And You’re Dead.

IN 2016, James again appeared opposite Nadine Lustre in the romantic film This Time about childhood friends turned into lovers. James finally shed off the teeny bopper vibes when he appeared in a more mature drama Never Not Love You, opposite Nadine Lustre. This film, though heavy, portrayed a realistic journey that lovers who began growing apart had encountered many times.

As of the moment, James Reid is concentrating on his new role – as a CEO of Careless Music! That is the reason why you don’t see him often in the movies or on TV anymore. His latest song is SODA and we’re also waiting for his new full-length album which he himself produced. Are you a big fan of James Reid?
