Things You Didn’t Know About Gerald Anderson

WE HAVE all known Gerald Anderson as one of the participants in the first batch of the reality television show Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition. From the moment the show finalized, we have never stopped seeing him. That is because Gerald never stopped working. We have seen him in television series, blockbuster movies, commercials, print ads and magazines. His face is plastered around billboards all over Metro Manila and provinces too.

Well, he does deserve the success that he celebrates now. From a teenager hailing from General Santos City to one of the country’s bankable leading man and product endorser, Gerald truly made it.

As he celebrates his birthday today, let us look back at his career and personal life. Here are the things you may not know about Gerald Anderson.

EARLY LIFE

Gerald was born Gerald Randolph Opsima Anderson Jr. on March 7, 1989 in Subic, Zambales, Philippines. His father is an American instructor based in Subic Naval Base and his mother, a Filipina businesswoman who hails from General Santos City. His childhood days were split in General Santos City, San Antonio Texas and Springfield, Missouri.

He has a younger brother, Kenneth Anderson and two older sisters from her mother’s previous marriage. Although he completed his elementary schooling in the United States, he finished his high school in the Philippines.

CAREER BEGINNINGS

The actor, Joross Gamboa was performing in Gerald’s hometown when he discovered him. Joross brought Gerald to his manager whom encouraged him to audition for the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition. He made the cut but was not proclaimed as the big winner and the rest, they say, is history.

He began his showbusiness career as the half of the infamous Kimerald duo, being paired with Kim Chiu. The pair first appeared on various ABS CBN television shows such as Love Spell and Aalog Alog. They debuted in the film First Day High.

BREAKTHROUGH

Gerald appeared in the primetime television series Sana Maulit Muli as Travis “Marto” Johnson in 2007. The love team appeared in their first feature film I’ve Fallen For You in the same year. For that project, Gerald was awarded as the Best New Male TV Personality at the 21st PMPC Star Awards and 38th Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Awards.

In 2008, Gerald and Kim landed the lead roles for the remake of the famous South Korean drama, My Girl. In 2009, Gerald and Kim came back in primetime television with the drama Tayong Dalawa. Gerald won the Best Drama Actor award for this project, given by the NSUU TV awards. He continued to appear in various television series such as Budoy (2011), Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin (2013), Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel (2014), Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin (2017), and A Soldier’s Heart (2020).

BASKETBALL

Gerald, if not in front of the camera, plays basketball professionally too. In fact, he had played for many basketball leagues throughout the years. In 2018, he played for the Marikina Shoemasters. In the following year, he played for the Chooks to Go Pilipinas 3×3. In 2019, he began playing for the Imus Bandera, which is a professional basketball team owned by the government of Imus, Cavite.
