Things You Didn’t Know About Cristine Reyes

I HAVE discovered Cristine Reyes  the same way everyone did – in national television, joining a reality artista search program called Starstruck. Although she was a mere teenager that time, I knew then, that she’d make it big.

Fast forward to many years later, Cristine Reyes has been a constant face in various television shows. She can be seen in silver screens in various films, in print ads, and even billboards around Manila.

We have watched her grow her profession slowly and admire her to be the mother that she is now to her equally lovely daughter, Amarah. Now that she is turning another chapter of her life, let us look back at how far she’d gotten. Here are some of the things you may not know about Cristine Reyes.

EARLY LIFE

Cristine was born Ara Cristine Pascual Klenk on February 5, 1989 in Marikina, Philippines. She has two half-sisters – Ara Mina and Janine Mae Malveda.

She was married briefly to Ali Khatibi in 2016. The ceremony took place in Balesin Island last January 27, 2016. The two had separated officially in 2019. Ali and Cristine shares a wonderful daughter named Amarah who was born February 2015.

CAREER BEGINNINGS

Cristine’s first shot in showbusiness was when she was fifteen years old through the reality television show Starstruck in GMA Network. Although she was the first female contended to get eliminated, it opened the doors of opportunities for her for the next few years with GMA Network.

After she was eliminated, she signed with the GMA Artist Center as her management, which handled her projects from 2003 to 2008. Immediately after Starstuck, she joined the cast of the teenage afternoon drama, Click as Vanessa, alongside Richard Guttierez and Angel Locsin.

For years, she landed supporting roles in mostly fantasy television series such as Mars Ravelo’s Darna (where she played Molecula), as Mars Ravelo’s Captain Barbel (played the role of Jennifer), Super Twins (where she played Magnesia) and FantasticMan (played multiple roles such as Kate / Screamer / Vampire Girl).

BREAKTHROUGH

After transferring to the rival network, ABS-CBN, Cristine elevated herself by landing leading roles. Her first was when she landed the titular role in the drama television series Eva Fonda in 2008, opposite Jason Abalos as her leading man.

This series got her her first international nomination for Best Actress at the Seoul International Drama Awards in 2009 and her first national acting nomination for Best Drama Actress at the 23rd PMPC Star Awards for Television.

From then on, she appeared in a lot of teleseryes under ABS-CBN. Some of the notable ones include Reputasyon, Precious Hearts Romances presents Kristine, Tubig at Langis and Nang Ngumiti ang Langit.

MOVIES

Although Cristine is considered to be a prolific television actress, she never neglected her movie career. Her debut film was in the movie Beautiful Life where she played the supporting character of Kim. She worked alongside veterans like Gloria Romero, Aubrey Miles and Amy Austria.

She continuously appeared in various films throughout the years, but her considered best yet is in the movie No Other Woman alongside Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsey. For this film, she won the Box Office Queen award (together with Anne) at the 2012 GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards. She was also nominated for the Actress of the Year at the 2012 Yahoo! Philippines OMG! Awards and Best Actress at the  2012 60th FAMAS Awards.

Some of Cristine’s notable works as a movie actress include The Gifted, Trophy Wife, When the Love is Gone, Maria and the critically-acclaimed UnTrue.

LATEST WORK

Cristine recently appeared as a guest judge in the reality singing competition television series the Masked Singer in TV5 which recently concluded last month. Her co-judges includes Aga Muhlach, Kim Molina, and Matteo Guidicelli.
