As a fan of beauty pageants, I had the opportunity to watch and discover up and coming celebrities before they make it big. Honestly, years of watching pageants will give you the hunch to know who can make it big.
That is what I felt when I saw Cindy Miranda. She had a dazzling personality and the wit to match it. Now wonder she was crowned as Binibining Pilipinas Tourism International in 2013.
As she navigates her life from pageantry to showbusiness, we have seen some of her work and honestly, she was born to do it. With her upcoming film this end of the month, let us look back at the life and career of Cindy Miranda.
Joanna Cindy Miranda on November 19. 1990 and hails from Baguio City. She finished her undergraduate degree from the University of Santo Tomas majoring in BS Tourism with honors.
At an early age, she had already joined amateur pageant contests such as Miss Philippine Earth Baguio 2008, Miss Camp 2010, Miss Teen Philippines Region 1, Baguio’s Miss Tourism Ambassadress and Aura Spa model in 2010.
Having that model like stature and to die for visuals, Cindy ventured into the glitz and glamorous world of professional beauty pageantry. It was in 2013 when she participated in the television special Binibining Pilipinas Gold: The 2013 Pageant.
Cindy again tried to bid for the crown the following year where she was crowned the Binibining Pilipinas Tourism International in 2013.
She first started her showbusiness career as one of the housemates in the reality television program Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited in 2011. Although she was evicted early in the game, with Slater Young being proclaimed as the ultimate winner, this achievement allowed her to have opportunities in transitioning into show business.
Among her earlier work, she was a host in the primetime variety game television show Willing Willie. The show first premiered in October 2010, airing from the network TV5. Cindy was among the co-hosts between years 2012 and 2013, with Grace Lee, Lovely Abella, Camille Villar and Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla.
Her first big screen debut was with the romantic comedy No Boyfriend Since Birth which stars reel and real life couple Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez in 2015. This was followed by another role in the film Ang Pambansang Third Wheel in 2018, starring Sam Milby and Yassi Pressman.
Cindy had a significant role in the action drama film Maria which stars Cristine Reyes in 2019. The film was about a former assassin, played by Cristine, who faked her own death to be able to start her own family. Her secret identity was eventually revealed which led her to being hunted by her former past.
What could be considered her breakthrough was when she was casted to play the supporting role of Sylvia in the high rating primetime drama Ang Panday in 2016. Cindy landed roles in various television series such as Maalaala Mo Kaya and Ipaglaban Mo.
It was also in the lesbian, erotic thriller film Adan in 2019 where she truly shined. Paired up with Rhen Escano, Cindy played the role of Marian, the other half of the best friend turned into lovers couple. In this film, she gave it her all from erotic kissing scenes to excellent acting. Her performance in this film showed how serious she is as an actress.
