Things You Didn’t Know About Christian Bables

ONLY FEW actors in the industry could truly claim that they started their career with a bang. Most of the actors had built their careers from ground up, playing small roles, and gradually progressing to supporting, main until they finally reached lead role status.

Well, that Is not the case for Christian Bables. His first year as an actor, he already garnered numerous nominations and awards for his breakthrough film – Die Beautiful.

If that is not a great signal of his years of career to come, I don’t know what is. Now that he is gracing the 2022 with an appearance at the next episode of Regal Studio Presents: ‘My Boyfriend’s Romance’ with Faith Da Silva, let us know more about this dynamite of an actor. Here are some of the things you may not know about Christian Bables, who was also recognized as the Best Actor of the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival for ‘Big Night’.

EARLY LIFE

Christian was born as Christian Mercurio Bables on December 6, 1992 in Bacoor, Cavite to parents Rodrigo Babeles and Bing Mercurio-Urbano. He took up Communication Arts for degree and obtained his college diploma from the De La Salle University Dasmariñas in 2013.

CAREER BEGINNINGS

Christian believed in preparing ahead before the opportunity comes. With his great love for acting, he had been taking Master’s class on Star Magic workshop even before his film debut. He debuted in television in 2015 in the drama revenge series Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita, working alongside veteran actors such as Vina Morales and Denise Laurel. He played a guest role (as Dwayne).

He was also in an episode of Magpakailanman (2017) and several episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya. He has been a performer in ASAP Natin To since 2021.

NOTABLE WORKS

Die Beautiful is one of Christian’s biggest work yet. Released in the first year of his movie career, his performance in Die Beuatiful, an LGBT comedy-drama film about the life and death of a transgender woman who tackled the various problems discretion against LGBT community had dealt with. In this film, Christian played the role of Barb, the best friend of Trisha (played by Paolo Ballesteros) who took her in after being sent away by her family due to her gender preference. Christian won the Best Supporting Actor awards given by three different award giving bodies (42nd Metro Manila Film Festival, 40th Gawad Urian, 35th FAP Luna Awards).

Only a few years after his award winning performance in Die Beautiful, Christian landed the role of Intoy Abakan in the multi-awarded film Signal Rock. In this film, he portrayed a conflicted youth – between duties for his family, hometown and the woman he loves. IN this film, Christian won The Best Leading Actor from the 5th Hanoi International Film Festival, Bright Star Award from the Asian Pop-Up Cinema and the Best Actor Award from the 6th Urduja Heritage Film Awards.

His latest achievement is with his film Big Night, a black comedy film directed by Jun Robles Lana. In this movie, he played the role of Dharna/Panfilo Macaspac Jr, who is a gay beautician and was accidentally involved in a drug watchlist with no basis. Christian worked with Eugene Domingo, Ricky Davao, Gina Alajar, John Arcilla and Janice De Belen in this film. His performance in this spectacular film won him the Best Actor Award in the recently concluded 47th Metro Manila Film Festival.
