Things You Didn’t Know About Charlie Dizon of Fan Girl

SURELY, a lot of people will search who is the obsessed Paulo Avelino fan in the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival entry ‘Fan Girl‘. Who is that lucky girl?

You might’ve also wondered who is that girl playing the Young Teddy (originally played by Toni Gonzaga) in ‘Four Sisters Before the Wedding‘. It is also the same Pinay who was revealed to be close friends with K-pop idol Nancy McDonie of Momoland. Hmmmm.. who’s this Charlie Dizon girl?

After my curiosity was piqued, I did what other fan girls do, Googled the heck out of her and her credentials. After doing some credible research, I came to like her. Not because she is pretty, not because she can sing, but because I think she is an over-all well rounded individual. If you want to know more about the new girl, Charlie Dizon, read on!

Early Beginnings

April Rose Dizon Matienzo was born on April 12, 1996 in the Philippines. She was originally enrolled at the University of Santo Tomas for her undergraduate degree. But due to the demands of her professional career, she had to finish the degree at the De La Salle- College of St. Benilde where she graduated with a degree in Human Resource Management.

In her professional career, she was given the stage name Charlie Dizon by none other than ABS CBN big boss Charo Santos-Concio. She eventually accepted the stage name since she prefers names that cater to both genders.

Television Series

Charlie started appearing in various television series, taking up the supporting role opposite the lead actors. In 2018, she appeared in several episodes of the law anthology “Ipaglaban Mo”. In 2019, she was also casted to play a role in the drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya”. She got a permanent role in fantasy drama television series “Parasite Island” where she played the character of Princess Salvacion for all 13 episodes.

Her acting in the series got noticed which led her to being casted in an action drama television series “A Soldier’s Heart”, where she played the role of Isabel Gezali. She was paired with Nash Aguas.

In the Movies

So far, Charlie have been focused on taking in roles in various television series. From her movie portfolio, it looks like she is still slowly building her projects. Her earliest work includes supporting roles in the films  “Finally Found Someone”, “Loving In Tandem” and “Seven Sundays” all in 2017. She was credited as April Matienzo.

In 2018, she appeared next to Coleen Garcia and Xian Lim in the film “Sin City” in 2018 as a supporting role. It was followed with another project “Pagdanggo sa Hukay” in 2019 with actors like Iza Calzado, Diva Montelaba, and Mercedes Cabral.

Commercials and K-pop?!

Aside from appearing in television series and movies, Charlie had been a staple in television commercials such as Nissin Cup Noodles, Lactacyd, Globe Spotify, Palmolive Anti-Hairfall, and Dole.

Apart from being a movie star, television actress, commercial model, did you know that she officially trained to become a Korean Pop idol? She actually auditioned to be a trainee, without her parents knowing it. Although it affected her studies and she had to fly back every now and then due to visa problems, her experience as a trainee definitely molded her to be the person she is now. Even though it didn’t turn out as planned, she was eventually launched as part of the Star Magic Circle in 2018.

2020 Projects

It looks like 2020 is the year for Charlie as she has been casted as a lead in two new movies – “Fan Girl” and Four Sisters Before the Wedding.

She will be playing the leading lady in the movie “Fan Girl” next to veteran actor Paolo Avelino. As for the “Four Sisters Before the Wedding”, she will reprise the role of Theodora Grace ”Teddie” Salazar which was formerly played by Toni Gonzaga – Soriano.
