Things You Didn’t Know About Aljur Abrenica

I know for sure that I was not the only one jumping up and down like a crazy lunatic when Aljur Abrenica was proclaimed to be the Ultimate Hunk in the iconic artista search StarStruck in 2006.

Fast forward to ten years in his home network, he had done a lot of roles. Genres that encompass romance, drama, action and even fantasy, he had done it all. He also took the risk and moved to the rival station.

Now that he is again being riddled with rumours and what not, let us look back at the life and work of Aljur. Here are some of the things you may not know about the Ultimate Hunk, Aljur Abrenica.

EARLY LIFE

Aljur was born as Aljur Guiang Abrenica on March 24, 1990 in Angeles City, Philippines. His father was a musician and his mother a member of a band. Aljur has several siblings – Vin Abrenica ( who is also in showbusiness), Alleah and Allen.

Aljur studied at the Don Bosco Academy in Pampanga. During his high school studies, he was inspired to pursue a career in aeronautics.

CAREER BEGINNINGS

Aljur was among the early batch of contestants in the reality show StarStuck. He joined the show in 2006 and eventually won the “Ultimate Hunk” title. This exposure to national television led him to sign with Regal Films.

His first non-reality television show was with the situational comedy Boys Nxt Door in 2007. Directed by Jun Lana, this series showcased Marky Cielo, Mart Escudero and Joseph Bitangcol. For this show, Aljur Abrenica lent his voice in singing the opening theme “Nagugulo, Nalilito” with the Rewind Band.

BREAKTHROUGH

Aljur spent about a decade of his showbusiness career with the GMA Network. He started as a supporting cast in mostly fantasy comedy series such as Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan, Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel and Luna Mystica, His first lead in a drama romance series was with the show All My Life, where he acted besides fellow StarStruck alumna Kris Bernal in 2009.

He then landed the lead role in the drama romance fantasy series The Last Prince, again besides Kris Bernal in 2010. In 2011, he landed the superhero role Machete, based on the fictional character of the same name by Pablo Gomez. In this series, he worked with Bela Padilla, Ryza Cenon and showbiz veterans Rio Locsin, Anita Linda and Gina Alajar.

He was also a part of Kambal Sirena where he was paired with Louise delos Reyesand Once Again with Janine Gutierrez.

 

TRANSFER TO RIVAL NETWORK

In 2014, Aljur legally filed for a petition in court for him to be released from his contract with GMA Network. His reasons for filing was that the career he has was not in line with the original plans. He was eventually let go from GMA Network in 2017 after his contract expired.

In the same year, Aljur appeared in ABS CBN’s primetime blockbuster television series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, playing the character of Miguel Enriquez. In 2018, he landed a leading role in the action drama television series Asintado with Paulo Avelino, Shaina Magdayao and Julia Montes. IN the same year, he was also a recurring cast in the comedy show Home Sweetie Home.

His last television project was the action drama television series Sandugo in 2019-2020, where he was the lead besides Ejay Falcon.

PERSONAL LIFE

Kylie Padilla and Aljur Abrenica

Aljur had began dating showbiz royalty Kylie Padilla on 2011. The couple broke up in 2014 and dated again in 2016. The became officially engaged on January 2017. Currently, they are co-parenting their two sons – Alas and Axl.

Although it was a year ago since we last saw him in television, we are honestly missing seeing him again in our big and small screens. He is set to appear on the Vivamax film ‘Nerisa’ with Cindy Miranda.
