THE MONTH of January was named after the Roman god Janus. Sa Roman mythology, siya ang “the god of good beginnings”. He is the doorkeeper of heaven and the god of beginnings and endings. May dalawang mukha ang kanyang estatwa, one on each side. His figure represents time dahil nakikita ng kanyang mga mukha ang nakaraan at ang hinaharap. Janus symbolizes what happened in the old year while looking forward to the new one.
As we begin 2012, tara at balikan natin ang 2011. Narito ang ilan sa mga ‘di malilimutang kaganapan sa apat na sulok ng showbiz noong nakaraang taon:
Celebrity Babies: I always say babies are lucky. Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid are the proud parents of Baby Nathaniel James who was born last November 8; Andi Eigenmann gave birth to Adrianna Gabrielle last November 23 at St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City in Taguig; ipinanganak ni Glydel Mercado ang pangalawang anak nila ni Tonton Gutierrez na si Aneeka Marie noong November 26; Cheska Garcia-Kramer gave birth to another baby girl Scarlett Louvelle last November 28; Kristine Hermosa and Oyo Sotto welcomed their firstborn Ondrea Bliss last December 26.
Weddings: Kristine Hermosa and Oyo Sotto tied the knot last January 12 at Club Balai Isabel in Talisay, Batangas; Roxanne Guinoo and Elton Yap were married last January 23 at the Santuario de San Antonio Church in Manila; nagkaroon ng romantikong sunset seaside wedding sina John Estrada at Priscilla Meirelles noong February 26 sa Thunderbird Resorts in Poro Point, San Fernando, La Union; Jolina Magdangal and Rivermaya’s drummer Mark Escueta exchanged “I do’s” twice – first, in an intimate wedding held at the Madre de Dios Chapel in Tagaytay last November 19 and second, noong November 21 sa Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay City, Cavite; Kyla married longtime boyfriend PBA cager Rich Alvarez last November 28 at the Santuario de San Antonio in Makati City.
Romantic Relationships: In her birthday press conference last October 12, Bea Alonzo finally admitted that she’s already in a committed relationship with Zanjoe Marudo since March last year; romance is in the air for Angel Locsin and Team Azkal’s football player Phil Younghusband who invited the actress through twitter for a Valentine’s date; nagsimula ang magandang pagtitinginan nina Luis Manzano at Jennylyn Mercado early 2011 dahil madalas silang nagkikita sa mga events at pagte-train ng muay thai at jujitsu; Maja Salvador and Matteo Guidicelli have finally confirmed that they are in a romantic relationship.
Pregnancy: Priscilla Meirelles is several months pregnant with her first baby.
Break-Ups: It’s never easy to say goodbye. Tinuldukan na nina Jake Cuenca and Melissa Ricks at nina Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion ang kani-kanilang relasyon.
Comeback: The one and only Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor finally returned to the country after several years of staying in the US.
Scandal: Mo Twister’s explosive video diary exposé about Rhian Ramos’ alleged abortion caused quite a stir in showbiz.
Death: Marami ang nalungkot sa maagang pagpanaw ng teen actor na si AJ Perez na namatay from a vehicular accident; Ramgen Revilla was killed while his girlfriend Janelle Manahan was shot in the face and shoulder by an assailant inside his house in Parañaque City; Filipino-Australian singer-actor RJ Rosales passed away last December 4 in Sydney, Australia.
Let us look forward to a bigger, brighter and better 2012. Let there be peace and prosperity for all. Sana ay mas maraming masasayang pangyayari sa mundo ng showbiz. May the movie industry produce more quality films that will showcase the Filipino talent at sana ay magpatuloy pa ang pamamayagpag ng artistang Pinoy sa world arena. Wala na sanang mga kalamidad which would damage homes, communities, properties and life. Magkapatawaran at magkabati na rin sana ang mga dating nagkasamaan ng loob. Hindi ba’t mas masarap ngumiti kesa sumimangot? Subukan mo, kaibigan.
