Vice Ganda, sinorpresa ni Chairman Laguardia

DAHIL SA PATULOY na pagsipa sa hippodrome, este, sa takilya ng Petrang Kabayo, its title-roler Vice Ganda has proven both prophets of doom and puppets of gloom wrong.

For the record, VG’s launching movie—na pinagmakaawaan niyang tangkilikin—grossed P15 million on its first day. Consistent ito sa box-office take dahil sa ikaanim nitong araw, naka-P107 million na ito, hence its victory cum thanksgiving party last Wednesday. Sana’y maging segue na rin ni Vice Ganda that night ang Baclaran Church for all the spiritual help sa ikinabongga ng kanyang pelikula at the tills.

Well, things have augured well for Vice Ganda. The second of two presscons na ipinatawag ng Viva Films created a louder stir following then-outgoing MTRCB Chair Conzolisa Laguardia’s paninita over VG’s on-air spiels with double meaning. Upon Petrang Kabayo’s showing, heto’t kamukat-mukat mo, despite the signature campaign for Laguardia’s retention ay “sinipa” rin siya like a horse’s hoof! But all’s well that ends well, sabi nga, dahil sa victory party, surprise ang pagdating ni Chairman Laguardia para batiin si Vice-Ganda. Kasama pa niya ang ilang board members, like Direk Joey Romero, at ang vice-chairman ng MTRCB na si Jackie Aquino.

Anyway, with Vice Ganda scoring a sweep via a successful major concert at the Big Dome, followed by a blockbuster movie, ang inaantabayanan naman ngayon ay ang pagsipa ng kanyang recording career. As the superstitious mumbo-jumbo has it, it comes in threes.

TO LABEL SARAH Geronimo as the Pop Star-turned-Flop Star is simply project-based. Puwedeng sabihing nasilat lang si Sarah in ABS-CBN’s project Idol, but this is not a stigma that stays forever.

Sa totoo lang, even the biggest of stars have their share of dismal flops at one point in their career. Pero muli silang nakababangon, only to prove themselves worthy of chance, and Sarah is no exception. Bagama’t matatapos na ngayong gabi ang Idol, in all honesty, I think it has given its audience —hindi lang ang mga tagahanga ni Sarah— a good story, a well-acted cast and an important lesson about life in general.

Let’s not be too hard on Sarah, kabilang na rin dito ang mga bumubuo ng Idol as it has delivered what’s expected of them even way beyond sa ating inaasahan.

TV5 HAS ANOTHER reason to celebrate. Nag-pilot kasi noong Sunday ang kanilang Magic? Gimik! With an impressive rating.

In terms of audience share, MG registered 24.9% vis a vis ng mga nakatapat nito sa ABS-CBN (22.4%) at sa GMA (17.8%).

Samantala, sa Lunes na magsisimula ang My Driver Sweet Lover starring JC de Vera and Danita Paner, directed by Eric Quizon and Soxy Topacio. To air from Mondays to Fridays, kasama rin dito ang anak ng love kong si Tito Joey de Leon na si Keempee who plays a gay fashion designer.

STARTALK TX REINFORCES its prominent position in the field of broadcast entertainment as it notches its 15th year anniversary special tomorrow. VX3 (As in five times three) ang tema ng longest-running showbiz-oriented talk show hosted by Lolit Solis, Butch Francisco, Ricky Lo, Alyssa Alano at Joey de Leon.

How time flies, really. Less than one-third of my life, naigugol ko na sa Startalk. And I remain proud and loyal.
