Erik Santo’s in his musical theater debut as The Prince in The Little Mermaid

PRINSIPENG-PRINSIPE TALAGA ANG da-ting ngayon ni Erik Santos. Maliban kasi sa kanyang titulong Prince of Pop, si Erik ang napiling gumanap bilang Prince Eric for Atlantis Productions’ upcoming staging of the Broadway Musical Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID which runs from November 18 to December 11 at the Meralco Theatre. THE LITTLE MERMAID will be directed by Bobby Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga.

Ito ang kauna-unahang pagsabak ni Erik sa mundo ng teatro. “I’m very excited and at the same time nervous. It’s my first time to do theater. Mas kritikal ang audiences sa teatro kaysa sa concerts. Sa concerts kasi ay p’wedeng iba-ibahin ang sequence ng performances pero sa theater, kung ano ang ginawa ninyo during the rehearsal ay dapat pareho pagdating sa stage,” sabi ni Erik during THE LITTLE MERMAID’s presscon at Astoria Plaza.

Erik picks the song “If Only” as one of his favorites in the musical. Ito raw ang kanta kung saan nagsasagutan sina Ariel, Prince Eric, Sebastian, at King Triton kahit sila ay nasa magkakaibang lugar.

Rachelle Ann Go plays Ariel in the musical. Close friends ang dalawa kaya excited sila sa musical.

Sinabi ni Direk Bobby, “I have know Erik since he started his career.  He is one of the most hard-working and passionate performers I know. He loves what he does and he has an incredible singing voice. I am thrilled that he is finally making his musical theatre debut as the Prince in The Little Mermaid.”

Ngayon pa lang ay marami nang excited na mapanood ang THE LITTLE MERMAID. Direk Bobby said it will be created with a fusion of East meets West elements. The underwater kingdom will be completely Asian in theme and the above water world will be Western, represen-ting two different worlds. Gagamit din sila ng mga traditional forms of Asian and Western puppetry gaya ng Wayang shadow play, bunraku, nang kaloung at western hand puppetry.

Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID has Choreography by Cecile Martinez, Set Design by Lex Marcos, Costume Design by Erik Pineda, Lighting Design by Jay Aranda, Puppetry Design and Execution by Liz and Benny Batoctoy and Sam Fuentes and Vocal Coaching by ManMan Angsico. Tickets are now on sale. For more information, call Atlantis Productions at 892-7078 or 840-1187.
