VICE PRESIDENT AND HOUSING and Urban Development Coordina-ting Council (HUDCC) Chairman Jejomar C. Binay announced during the eighth leg of the Pabahay Caravan held in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte the approval by the National Housing Authority (NHA) Board of the first ever housing project exclusive for Aetas, a group of indigenous people in Central Luzon.
The housing project will be-nefit the association Tribung Ayta ng Nabuklod whose members are all constituents of the municipality of Floridablanca, Pampanga.
“Initially, we have allocated fourteen million pesos for this project which is expected to generate 350 housing units,” Binay, who is also Chairman of the NHA Board, said.
The provincial government of Pampanga earlier expressed its intention to resettle around 3,000 homeless Aetas.
“We assure you of our commitment to work hand-in-hand with the local government units (LGUs) to provide security of housing tenure not just to the Aetas but to all indi-genous peoples around the country,” Binay said.
He added that the Pabahay Caravan seeks to build a stronger partnership between the national government and the LGUs by working together in accelerating shelter production and enhancing the delivery of housing services to the people.
In the same event, the Vice President also mentioned that they are working double time to deliver before the end of the year more than sixteen thousand housing units for the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police (PNP) under President Aquino’s AFP/PNP Housing Program.
The Vice President also led the ceremonial awarding of 57 Transfer Certificate of Titles (TCTs) to be-neficiaries of Pag-IBIG Fund’s FVR-Palaris Housing Project and NHA’s housing projects in Paoay and Candon City.
The housing event was the eighth conducted this year with the last seven caravans held in Cebu, Baguio City, Tagaytay City, Davao, Pampanga, Zamboanga and Tac-loban. The housing caravan was attended by local chief executives of Region I as well as their respective planning officers and other department heads involved in housing programs and projects.
