Arjo Atayde, patutunayang ‘di malas ang best new male TV personality award

BLIND ITEM: Native fruit desserts are not necessarily sweet.

TIME WAS when of all the awards up for grabs in the PMPC Star Awards for TV, what was believed to be a “jinx” ay ang Best Male/Female TV Personality.

Yet look, Sam is still active; his career going great guns; his fan base increasingly growing.

Sa nakaraang 26th Star Awards for TV, Arjo Atayde — son of Art Atayde and Sylvia Sanchez — bested five other hopefuls para sa kategoryang ito. Arjo’s baptism of fire was via ABS-CBN’s E-Boy, although mas nagmarka ang kanyang single performance in Maalaala Mo Kaya?’s Bangka episode.

Kuya Alfie may be right in his observation, ibinabase lang naman kasi niya ito sa kasaysayan ng mga winner in the past whose careers dimmed even before they shone brighter. But times do change.

Sa kaso ni Arjo, he will welcome the start of 2013 literally with a big bang. Sa action drama kasi siya mapapanood via Dugong Buhay with EJ Falcon with Toto Natividad as director. Bilang paghahanda, Arjo keeps his body in shape kaya on a strict diet ang binata.

Pero huwag ka, after he won his first trophy (which is now proudly displayed in his bedroom) ay binlow-out niya ang kanyang tropa who feasted on pizza. Said Arjo who least expected to win, “’Yaan n’yo na, minsan lang ako manalo ng award!”

GENERALLY, MEN are less emotionally assertive than women. Hangga’t maaari, they keep their thoughts to themselves. Ganito namin gustong ilarawan si Vin Abrenica, the recently adjudged Best Actor in the first Artista Academy on TV5.

At 21, Vin has had three serious relationships, the last of which spanned four years. Mas matanda kesa sa kanya ang babae, nag-break sila even before Vin auditioned for AA.

“When she returned all that stuff, I knew it was over. What did I do? I cried. Yes, I cried,” matapang at artikuladong pag-amin ni Vin who — FYI — is a culinary arts graduate and an undergraduate of English Studies at the University of the Philippines.

Pardon this unfair comparison, but we admire Vin more than his Kuya Aljur if only for his candor and glibness na bibihira among the new crop of young actors. Vin is a sensible talker.

Samantala, nakaalis na nitong Miyerkules si Vin kasama si Sophie Albert patungong Dubai — his first trip abroad after winning the much-coveted plum — to do a show for the Bayanihan Festival. Bukas siya nakatakdang magbalik in time for rehearsal sa kanilang Zirkoh Bar show with his dad Jojo and Aljur aptly titled Father & Sons produced by dear friend Cristy Fermin.

Anytime this December, Vin will start taping for his TV5 teleserye titled Never Say Goodbye with Sophie and no less than the country’s one and only Superstar Nora Aunor.
