‘Di malilimutang sagot mula sa beauty queens

HINDI PA RIN humuhupa ang Ms. Universe fever sa bansa. Nagbunyi ang buong sambayanan when Shamcey Supsup won 3rd Runner-Up in the Ms. Universe pageant held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Sa Q&A portion ay tinanong siya ni Vivica A. Fox na isa sa mga judges if she would change her religion to marry the one she loves. Shamcey answered, “If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person that I love is God who created me and I have my faith and my principles and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God, too.” Ang sagot ni Shamcey ay tiyak nang tatatak sa isipan ng publiko gaya ng mga di-mali-limutang sagot ng mga sumusunod na past beauty queens ng bansa:

Gloria Diaz, Ms. Universe 1969. She was only 18 years old when she competed at the Ms. Universe pageant held at the Miami Beach, Florida.

Q: In the next day or so, a man will land on the moon. If the man from the moon landed in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?

A: Oh! Uh, just the same things I do. I think if he has been on the moon for so long, I think when he comes over he wants to change, I guess.

Margie Moran, Ms. Universe 1973. The pageant was held in Athens, Greece.

Q: Let’s make believe that all of a sudden you had a million dollars. What’s the first thing you would buy and why would you buy it?

A: A house and lot because it’s the most expensive thing and I can’t afford it so if I had a million bucks, I’d buy a house and lot and live by myself and other people, of course.

Q: What is one big mistake that you’ve made in your life and what did you do to make it right?

A: You know what, sir, in my 22 years of existence, I can say that there’s nothing major, major, I mean, problem that I’ve done in my life because I’m very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So, thank you so much that I’m here. Thank you, thank you so much!

Q: If Miss Universe were to become pregnant during her reign, should she be allowed to continue as Miss Universe?

A: It’s a very difficult situation to be in and ah, ah, I believe that the Miss Universe, if ever she becomes pregnant, I believe that she should continue with her reign if she has been a good example to be a Miss Universe, she has pursued all the… all the goals that she has, that she had, in the first place. And I believe that she should continue.

Ruffa Gutierrez, Bb. Pilipinas World 1993 and Miss World 2nd Princess. Ginanap ang 1993 Miss World sa Sun City, South Africa.

Q: How would you tell a girl who’s suffering from low self-esteem to feel better about herself?

A: I’ll tell her to believe in herself because it’s not only physical beauty that’s important but also inner beauty. Like what the Little Prince said, ‘What is essential is invisible to the naked eye.’ And I believe that character and personality are more important than physical beauty.
